FAQ

I hate needles. Does Acupuncture hurt?

We hear this a lot! Many people arrive at our clinic saying “I hate needles.” This is usually based on past experience with the typical hypodermic needles used when getting blood drawn or shots at the doctor’s office. And if that’s your experience, too, we understand your reluctance.

Fortunately, acupuncture needles are nothing like hypodermic needles and do not hurt. Acupuncture needles are incredibly fine and thin, about the thickness of a few strands of hair. They are also solid, and so do not puncture the skin in the same way as a hollow and much thicker hypodermic needle does.

Acupuncture is very comfortable. Most people take a nap during their treatment, and leave feeling relaxed, refreshed, and looking forward to their next “acu nap.”

Am I a candidate for Acupuncture?

An initial consultation with Dr. Keller is needed to determine if our services can benefit your specific case. However, in general, acupuncture is a science-tested holistic medicine that has been shown to help improve a wide variety of conditions. Acupuncture is a minimally invasive and low-risk treatment option with a high safety record when performed by properly trained providers.

We regularly see acupuncture improve conditions when no other treatments have helped. So for most people, yes, acupuncture is something you should explore.

How many treatments will I need?

The number of recommended treatments will vary depending on the condition. Complex and chronic conditions will typically benefit from 1-2 treatments a week for several months. Acute conditions typically need far fewer treatments, often resolving in just a few visits. Many people find that regular acupuncture once a month helps to maintain their health once their primary issues have been satisfactorily resolved.

What can I expect as a patient at ABIMC | Acupuncture Beaufort Integrative Medicine Center?

As a patient, you can expect to be treated as an individual, not a number. Your treatment plan will be customized to you and your health goals to help you achieve the best results.

After your initial consultation, and we’ve determined you’re a candidate for our services, you can often receive your first treatment that same day.

While acupuncture is a cornerstone treatment at our clinic, our personalized treatment plans include a comprehensive combination of the various integrative medicine services we offer. A typical office visit may include an acupuncture session, while at another visit we may combine acupuncture with ATP Resonance BioTherapy. Another visit may include electro-acupuncture. And another visit may combine ATP Resonance BioTherapyTM with Ozone.

Your personalized treatment plan, and your individual needs, health goals and response to treatment ultimately determines our best recommendations for the acupuncture and integrative medicine services that will most benefit you.

Do you take insurance? Is Acupuncture covered by insurance?

Insurance companies only like to cover treatments that don’t actually fix the problem. So we’re out-of-network for all insurance, and do not bill third-party or private insurance directly. We can provide a super bill that you can submit to your insurance company for possible reimbursement.

The good news is because of our choice to be out-of-network, you are in complete control of what treatments you get, not an insurance company! And acupuncture treatments are very affordable.
